Third Annual Free Online Poker Tournament Exclusively at Games.com
New York – May 12, 2008 – AOL today announced that Games.com, http://games.com, will award six seats to this summer’s World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. Beginning May 4 and running through June 15, players can compete in free, online No-Limit Texas Hold’em tournaments on Games.com’s World Series of Poker hub, http://games.com/poker. The six top qualified players will each win a seat to the World Championship No-Limit Texas Hold'em event on July 3, 2008, and travel accommodations from within the United States to Las Vegas.
“Free-play online poker continues to be one of our most popular categories on Games.com,” said Greg Mills, Director, AOL Games. “We are thrilled to continue our exclusive agreement with Harrah’s License Company, LLC the owner of the World Series of Poker to provide a chance for users to win a poker player’s dream come true – a seat at the table with Poker professionals. And if they play their cards right, they could walk away with millions.”
The tournament will run over the course of six weeks. Each week, players will participate in free daily qualifying tournaments to earn their way to a Sunday winner-takes-all tournament. The winners will receive an entry and travel accommodations from within the United States to the 2008 World Series of Poker No-Limit Texas Hold’em Championship slated to begin July 3, 2008 at the Rio® All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. One of last year’s online tournament winners, Troy O’Brien from New Jersey, ended up walking away with $51,000 in winnings.
“For the past three years, AOL has offered amateur poker players something they can’t find anywhere else – a free opportunity to play at the World Series of Poker Main Event,” said Jeffrey Pollack, Commissioner of the World Series of Poker. “We are excited to continue our alliance with AOL to offer anyone over the age of 21 a shot at becoming part of poker history.”
In addition to Games.com’s exclusive library of free World Series of Poker games, including variations of Texas Hold’em, Omaha and Seven Card Stud, the site, http://games.com/poker, also offers poker tips and videos featuring professional poker players.
