WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 20, 2008 – Advertising students from across the country will present their comprehensive integrated marketing campaigns during the finals of the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC), June 8-9 in Atlanta. AOL is the 2008 competition sponsor, and the NSAC finals are part of the AAF National Conference.

This year, AOL challenged students to develop an integrated marketing campaign for AOL’s AIM instant messaging service and its suite of social media products.

 
 

AOL Completes Acquisition of Bebo

AOL completed its acquisition of Bebo, which will form the centerpiece of AOL’s newly formed People Networks business unit. Joanna Shields will serve as Executive Vice President, AOL, and President of People Networks, which comprises Bebo, AIM, ICQ, and AOL’s other community services. People Networks currently has a combined reach of about 80 million users worldwide. AOL Chairman and CEO Randy Falco said that “AOL is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the exploding social media space by delivering a more personal experience for consumers and a better way for advertisers to engage them.” Read more in the release.

AOL Acquires Sphere

New York, NY, April 15, 2008 – AOL today announced that it has acquired Sphere Source, Inc., a leading provider of contextual-search tools which offers related content to publishers. Sphere will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of AOL as part of the company’s Programming division, which is led by Executive Vice President Bill Wilson.

Founded in 2005 and based in San Francisco, Sphere uses its contextual-search platform technology to make connections between content from blogs, video, media, photos and advertisements. These contextual results are then displayed in a pop-over window or an integrated widget that lets publishers enhance articles by incorporating related articles and blog posts from archived content and across the Web.

 
 

AOL Opens New Headquarters In New York

New York, NY – April 14, 2008 – AOL today opened the doors to its new corporate headquarters in New York City at 770 Broadway. The offices will house more than 300 AOL employees from Corporate and Programming, initially occupying two floors of the building. AOL’s New York-based Platform-A advertising staff will move to the new headquarters location in future phases.

The headquarters building was originally home to the Wanamaker department store. The building was designed in 1903 by Daniel Burnham, whose other buildings include Flatiron Building on New York’s 5th Avenue and Union Station in Washington, D.C.

Today, AOL officially opened its new corporate headquarters at 770 Broadway in New York City as part of the company's transformation to an ad-supported Web business. As Randy Falco, Chairman and CEO of AOL, said when AOL announced the planned move back in September 2007, “New York City is the center of advertising, so it makes perfect sense to locate our corporate headquarters here.” See more pictures after the jump.

Virginia Supreme Court Upholds Nation’s First Felony SPAM Conviction

Virginia Commonwealth sealThe Virginia Supreme Court has upheld the nation’s first felony SPAM conviction. Jeremy Jaynes was convicted in November 2004 on three counts of violating Virginia’s groundbreaking Anti-Spam Act.
